The God of Prosperity

A message from Cindy Pentecost:

There is much talk in our culture today about wealth and who controls the flow of blessings in our life.  As I prayed, and asked the Lord what I should write this month, a continuing theme kept popping up. I  believe the Lord alone is the one and only source of all blessings. In God’s Word He is referred to as “The Stone”.

1 Peter 2: 4-10 “Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life.  The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor.  Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you will serve, offering up Christ approved lives…Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundation will never have cause to regret it.  The stone the workmen threw out is now the chief cornerstone.  For the untrusting, it’s…a stone to trip over, a boulder blocking the way, they trip and fall.  But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling.  God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others of the night and day difference He made for you-from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted."

The “Law of Attraction” that is gaining popularity through our society is an example of workmen throwing out or rejecting The Stone.  This law states that it is our words, the power within us to attract success into our lives. This belief subtlety takes God out and places us where He alone belongs. Satan tried the same temptation tactic on Jesus in the wilderness.  Satan told Jesus, “ all this is yours, just say it and take it -but Jesus refusal was curt” “Worship the Lord your God, and only Him.  Serve Him with absolute single-heartedness.” Matthew 4:10

I know it is God alone at work in each of us that will be what draws people and success into our lives.  We must believe that it is God’s will for us to live a prosperous life.  I believe the purpose and the power to create wealth is to demonstrate to those still living outside of God’s will, to come to know the reality of God, the one who made it all. Wealth gained through God showcases the God who made and gave it.

Deuteronomy 8:18 reads “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives the power to get wealth, that He may establish His Law.” The same verse in the message reads “If you start thinking to yourselves, “I did all this. And all by myself, I’m rich, it is all mine! Well think again.  Remember that God, your God gave you the strength to produce all this wealth so as to confirm Him…”

I believe “All the days ordained for each of us were written in God’s book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:16b

I close with this prayer:
“Lord Jesus, we acknowledge that the earth is yours and everything in it.  We thank you for supplying all of our needs according to Your riches in glory.  We thank You that You not only desire for us to prosper spiritually, emotionally, relationally, physically, but You desire for us to prosper financially. Help us be good managers of all You give to us.  We humble ourselves before You and ask You to teach us Your ways.  Help us to give You alone all the Glory and be protected from anything that comes to kill, rob or destroy Your very best for us.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
