Welcome to the second session of the It Works Global Book Club! We are currently reading, “Beach Money” by Jordan Adler. This week we are discussing Chapters 2-5. I noticed three major themes in these chapters: Perseverance, the power of dreaming, and believing in yourself.
In chapter 2 (Page 9) one passage stood out to me, “I could not let go of the dream of having a large passive residual income that would give me the freedom to travel, have fun, and play all over the world.” Even after all of Jordan’s many failed attempts, he still couldn’t let go of that dream! This reminded me of a quote someone shared with me on Facebook last week that said, “The people who successfully start independent businesses do it because we have no real choice in the matter. The voice in our heads won't shut up until we discover if we're right, if we can do it, if we can make something happen. This is an art, our art, and to leave it bottled up is a crime.”
If you are already in this business, then you listened to that little voice in your head that wouldn’t shut up! Good- keep listening to that voice. Let it drive you, motivate you. Don’t bottle it up! Let it ring in your head until it drives you absolutely insane! This is the voice that reminds of something that is so important to be successful in this business: never give up. Why? Because YOU can do this; you deserve this.
And when you feel discouraged, remember what Jordan said in chapter 4 (Page 19). “I found myself sitting with a group of people who were all earning between $10,000 and $60,000 per month. I learned from the conversations taking place that night. As I listened, it occurred to me that these people were just like me!” During my time at It Works Global, I’ve had the chance to interact, get to know, and hang out with some of the company’s top Distributors. And if I’ve learned anything from them, just like Jordan said, they are normal people, just like you and I. Really, I mean it! Kami and Nathan, Melody and Blair, Rusty and Robin, even Mark and Cindy- they are people just like you.
They don’t have a secret formula to success, they listened to that little voice in their head, and went for it 110%, not doubting themselves for even a second. Remember what Jordan said in chapter 4 (page 17)? “Committed leaders can quickly and easily attract other leaders. Teams grow fast in the fearless state…this is how individuals and companies do the impossible. Most great success stories are unrealistic tales that come true because a group of people believed in the impossible and fearlessly shared their dreams with others.” In other words: JUST DO IT. Make up your mind that this is it- and make it happen.
It also seems that chapter 3 left us with a little homework assignment! (Remember the dream journal?!) So, grab a pen and paper, sit down and WRITE! (Page 16) “Set aside all your fears, doubts, and apprehensions about what’s possible, and just write as if you were a child again, dreaming from your heart. Write until you have your entire life exactly how you want it.”
What are your thoughts on chapters 2-5? What passages stood out at you? Do you have any action items for this week? How has this book changed your perception in so far? Let’s hear it all! And for next week lets read chapters 6-10.
