We traveled to Italy in December 2008. Kaye was studying in Florence for the fall semester so Dave, Adam and I flew to Italy to spend 12 days together and celebrate Christmas with her before bringing her home. It will always be one of our favorite family trips.
We rode the train from Florence to Rome so that we could visit the Vatican. As with everyone in Italy, you walk where you want to go or take a moped and since no one thought it would be a good idea for me to be on a moped, we walked everywhere. Smart choice. On our way to the Vatican, we walked by many shops and since I LOVE to shop my eyes were looking into all the windows. We passed by the Francesco Biasia Store, an Italian Designer since 1977. I had been looking for just the right color red bag for quite some time and I saw it. I stood awe struck at the window and begged Dave to let me go inside but NO — he was on a mission to get to the Vatican and just kept walking while I stood drooling at the bag in the window. He promised me that we would come back by on our way back to our hotel. But, of course we were too tired and hungry after the tour and forgot where the shop was. But, I couldn’t get that red bag out of my mind. I saw myself carrying it and knew that I was going to get it.
We left Rome and rode the train to Sorrento and spent five beautiful days there including Christmas Day. While Kaye and I were shopping in Sorrento, we saw a smaller version of the red bag however I wanted the larger one but the store could not get it for me prior to us leaving so I went home encouraged because Kaye assured me that we could order it online. Hey, I know you’re thinking, “what is so darn special about this bag?” but it was “perfect” in color, size, etc… it’s a woman thing.
We left Italy and headed home tired but excited to be back in the States for New Years. I have a favorite coffee shop that I head to when I get home along with a shoe store that is right around the corner. I bought a cup of coffee and headed to the shoe store. I walked in the front door and was drawn immediately to the right where underneath a shelf of sale items and on the floor was the red bag. I am not kidding, the exact Francesco Biasia red bag in the size that I wanted and it was on sale in Roanoke, VA. I stood there with tears in my eyes, reached over and picked up the bag. In a daze I walked over to the counter and said, “Where did this bag come from?” She said that it had just arrived from their other store and they are not sure why it didn’t sell. I bought it and left the store still in a daze. Since then I have been back many times and to this day they have never had that brand in there again.
This is the point of my story. You get what you think about, always. I thought about carrying that bag, how that bag would look on me, how excited I would be to get the bag, how every time I carried it I would think of our trip… list goes on. I always thought of having it. I thought about it as though I already owned it. Every time I carry this bag, I am always reminded that you have to feel as though you already have what you want; that you already are what you want to be. For example, if you want to earn a certain amount of money each month, what would that feel like? If you are thinking of it in a feeling of lack, it will not happen. You will keep getting the lack of money. If you want to be a Diamond, imagine what that would feel like. Imagine that I am interviewing you on the Monday night call. What are we talking about? What are you saying? Get in the feeling place of already having what you want and I promise you, you will get it.
If you would like to study this more, there is a book that I recommend called Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn.
I will be carrying my red bag for a long time as a reminder that you can have anything you want in life as long as you dream it…live it…share it!
