One of the main reasons I designed the 2010 Slimming Challenge around clothes is that I’ve never really liked the scale. Too often we are focused on the scale and freak out when we hit a plateau in our weight loss.
It’s always been interesting to me when I see weeks go by where the scale doesn’t budge, or even heaven forbid, (sigh) goes up a few pounds, when I really know it should have gone down. After I check to make sure it’s level and working properly, I collapse in a chair with frustration. I mean I’ve done all the right things: eating healthy, exercising a minimum of 4 times a week and hydrating with calorie free cold water. Uggh! Talk about making me want to eat the chocolate cake — because looking at the scale makes me believe it wouldn’t have made a difference anyways.
This is where trying on my dresses come to the rescue. I notice a difference in my body when I try on clothes. They keep my fork from diving deep into the center of a cheesy piece of Chicago style pizza on a regular basis. The scale does not show my muscle increase (which weighs more than fat), the scale does not show the definition beginning to take place in my arms (similar to the first lady herself I must say). The scale does not show the cheek bones that are starting to highlight my once round face
For me there is truly nothing better than feeling a dress with a tight squeeze finally zip the final inch. It’s that feeling that makes me continue to reach for celery sticks rather than cookies.
The only other feeling that comes close to that is the feeling of putting on clothes that once were too tight and uncomfortable and now fall off your waist, or hang loose on your shoulders. It’s moments like these that I encourage me to continue to eat according to FITworks. It’s moments like these that get me out of bed in the morning for a sweaty workout. It’s moments like these that bring more enjoyment to taking the time to grocery shop for healthy options.
If you have been zipping with me since the beginning of the challenge I know you have had these moments and you can relate to me. To you I say- we have come this far and we are only half way. I can’t wait to see and feel double this good.
For those of you who have just begun your Zip it Up journey I am so excited to hear from you the first moment you feel a zip — it’s euphoric. I’m excited to watch the momentum build, as you begin transforming to a healthy lifestyle.
Update on what I am doing: The same things I have done from the beginning. Why? Because it works.
I eat according to FITworks meal plan.
I workout 30-60 minutes at least 4 times a week. I am talking about dedicated workout time, not the times I just happen to walk around the mall or grocery store. Those are bonus workouts.
I take Vital, Greens and ThermoFit daily.
I cheat – once a week on whatever I want. And take Fat Fighter with that meal.
