Exercise does wonderful things for your body

By: Dr. DonVerhulst

Exercise does more than help you achieve ideal weight. For starters, it releases endorphins, which are “feel-good” neurotransmitters, or brain chemicals, that literally make you feel better. That’s why some depression can be treated with consistent exercise. Exercise is also the number one treatment for osteoporosis, high blood pressure, insomnia and many other ailments.

Studies show that four hours of exercise a week reduces a woman’s risk of breast cancer by 60 percent! That alone makes it worth the effort for any woman. In fact, exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer too. Exercise can also prevent, control, and even reverse adult-onset diabetes (because it reduces fat and allows insulin to start working again). Given the high incidence of diabetes these days, that makes exercise worth the effort for anyone. I can’t think of one ailment that exercise wouldn’t hugely benefit.

Exercise strengthens your heart muscle and increases your circulation or blood flow, too. As God’s Word says, “the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). The oxygen-carrying capacity of your body increases as your blood flow increases, and that’s good news because all diseases hate oxygen!

Your brain loves oxygen. The more you exercise, the more oxygen reaches your brain and the better your mental state. Exercise is the one and only thing outside of drugs that will increase your mental alertness and your emotional tranquility/stability with no side effects. Doesn’t it sound good to have mental clarity when you need it and also be able to relax and feel peaceful inside? Exercise promotes both states of mind!

How about all those people you’ve heard of who had to have heart bypass surgery? Did you know regular exercise promotes natural bypasses? Your body continually makes collateral arterials, the “alternate routes” for blood flow should the main routes be blocked. Exercise is the only way to consistently increase that collateral circulation; the more you exercise, the more collateral arterials your body makes. Whatever physical problem a person may have, increasing blood flow by way of consistent, moderate exercise can be a vitally important part of the treatment program.

Do you suffer with migraines? If you’ve ever been incapacitated by one of those, you know what pain and suffering is. If you are a migraine sufferer, though, I have great news for you. Studies show that increasing your water intake and engaging in consistent, moderate exercise markedly decreases—and often completely eliminates—the incidence of migraines. That spells relief the natural way.

Many of us exercise because we want to look better. For an added boost to your exercise routine, I recommend It Works!’s New You  as an aid in building lean muscle mass. Because it’s designed to increase lean muscle mass, New You makes your time exercising more effective.  ―even when you’re not exercising. New You also works with your exercise routine to reduce your risk for osteoporosis by promoting the release of important growth hormones. You’ll also find that it boosts your endurance, helps improve your post-workout recovery and enhances your immune system. All these things make you feel better so you’ll feel more like exercising regularly.
