Matters of the Heart

Be smart when it comes to your heart health!

Heart-shaped candy boxes, heart-themed decorations, and hearts in valentines—February is all about hearts! Do all those hearts ever get you thinking about your own?  They should because from the U.S. and Canada to the U.K., February is Heart Month with various health organizations working to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and how you can keep your heart ticking at its optimum level.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in all adults in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and while it has long been belived to be a man’s health issue, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. With rates of obesity and diabetes—two risk factors for heart disease—on the rise, especially in children, these numbers may only worsen with future generations. Needless to say, the current Western lifestyle and diet has our hearts ticking down! Luckily, there are simple actions you can take to improve your heart health and boost your life expectancy.

Get Moving!
Do you spend eight hours (or more) a day behind a desk? Do your kids spend more time playing video games or texting friends than romping in the yard or park? If you answered “yes”, you’re living a typical Western lifestyle. Even if you’re a fan of sports or enjoy the oudoors, exercise is probably something you have to pencil in to your already busy schedule, but it’s worth it. Becoming more active can lower your blood pressure and boost your levels of good cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends devoting 30 minutes a day, five days a week to physical activity. Aerobic exercises, such as walking, jogging, swimming, or biking, are an excellent way to strengthen your heart.

The Heart of Good Nutrition
Maintaining a heart-healthy diet is not just about what you can’t eat, though consumption of processed meat, sugary beverages, and sodium should be kept to a minimum. A truly heart smart diet is built on great foods and nutrition. The American Heart Association recommends eating a daily minimum of four and a half cups of fruits and vegetables, three ounces of fiber-rich whole grains, and getting at least two 3.5-ounce servings of fish every week. Not sure that recommended serving of fruits and veggies is doable for you? It is when you drink your Greens™, a delicious orange-flavored, alkalizing drink powder with the nutritional value of 8+ servings of fruits and vegetables and 38 herbs and nutrient-rich "superfoods" that provide vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and enzymes in each serving.

A heart-healthy diet doesn’t have to be bland; it can even have a flavor of rich chocolate or creamy vanilla! Give your heart smart diet a boost of superior, heart-healthy protein with Ultimate ProFIT® Advanced Superfood Nutrition in creamy vanilla or rich chocolate. Ultimate ProFIT is powered by Sustain-It™, a blend of non-hormonal and non-GMO whey and soy proteins that delivers maximum benefits to the body per gram of protein to build lean muscle mass and helps reduce LDL cholesterol levels and maintain HDL (good cholesterol) levels in normal, healthy individuals. Use it to make heart-healthy shakes or smoothies, add it to a glass of water or milk, mix it with your favorite foods, or even bake with it!  The heart of good nutrition is just one scoop of Ultimate ProFIT away!

In a month that’s all about hearts and love, show a little love for your own to keep it beating strong!
